The #SubaruBRZ was always an outlier in the #Subaru lineup. As the company's only RWD car, its bespoke chassis, high-revving engine, and near perfect 50/50 weight distribution made it a huge hit for enthusiasts looking for an entry-level sports car with a big tuning potential. For 2022, the long-awaited second generation #BRZ is here, it gets a new 2.4L NA F-4 with up to 228 HP and 184 lb-ft of torque. Subaru has also given the BRZ a new design inside and out and when it goes on sale next Fall, pricing shouldn't stray too far from the current models under $30k base price.

A brand new sports car doesn’t come around very often. Especially an affordable one like the BRZ, expect to see Toyota unveil the new 86 very soon. We’re looking forward to seeing how that new 2.4L feels, do you believe Subaru should have gone the turbo route with a higher price tag? Or are you happy they elected to leave it naturally aspirated?

      1. Kin sin

Sofyan bey araç kaç cc, turbo gelmiş mi ???

      2. digitaldoc100

@Dave Volz Yes, big problem with the car, and the fix is making it worse. I think that may be a reason they went with the 2.4 engine, but they should have left the turbo as an option.

      3. Dave Volz

@digitaldoc100 what they are worried about is blown engines.

      4. Dave Volz

@Dank knowledge💫🙏🔥💨 Blow so hard. Subaru, after all

      5. Darrell Willis

@Mateusz Kucharski look bro i have no idea why you even talking to me rn whether on track or street it's still a underpowered shit box. if they give it 310 horsepower that'll make it worth 30 thousand but as it is now for 30 thousand it's a piece of shit🤷🏾‍♂️

    3. MadMan 728

The fisheye effect of your lens did not do this car any favors.

    4. sorasak somchai

So they abandoned concept design and go with catfish head design 😑

    5. Bob Fisher

To me, the looks are an improvement. And the 8" screen is perfectly adequate to allow tactile knobs and buttons: no annoying hit'n'miss touchscreen.

    6. grouchyblackman

I'm such a hater. Hate this dudes face. Hate his gestures. Hate his voice. I also hate my own voice. But love this car!

    7. Hans Wurst

Looks much worse than the previous version, especially the rear. Very generic and boring. Sound seems fake

    8. Taha Soomro

standout in an SUV world , am I too dumb to understand this , or is he comparing this to SUVs

    9. Swee Yong

put the engine in the middle and youll have yourself a porsche killer

    10. Matt C

      Poor man's GT3, i'd buy one.

at the opening did you say you enjoy a good spanking? or maybe you said the car is brand spanking new? anywho I love it - the facelift is EXCELLENT - it finally looks like a threat, 50/50 weight, tighter yet smoother suspension? some decent HP - with that bonus feel free to gift me one. - tony

    12. Koov

      2:55 I came

    13. Ed Findlay

      Still no turbo? Boooo.

    14. berg Sachsen

    15. David Thao

eeeh I like the older model looks more

    16. DavSSS

      Nissan Z design?

    17. stanstanxxx

do I hear fake engine noise? hope not...

    18. Frosted Slime

Them: Those tail lights are terrible Me: Were you even going to keep the car stock?? Them: ... no...

    19. Jayden Stowe

The blue just looks absolutely stunning

    20. Schabel Racing

I'm happy to see this is coming. I love the S2000 and MX-5 but I don't like convertibles. This is pretty much the only light weight, simple, RWD coupe that isn't super expensive.

    21. nick gary

Im a porsche fans, illl buy this as long as its cheaper

    22. Axe2Grind

Everyone: watched video of new BRZ Also everyone: proceed to freak out over seeing 3 seconds of the quarter panel of a 22B in the background lol. 👌👌

    23. Nick DiPerna

      Yeah I’ll keep my 2013😂😂😂😂

    24. S2Kae

      Lmao nsx ??!??

    25. Fascinating Cat-tivating

I'll take a Mazda Miata instead

    26. Kellen James

As an owner of a 2013 Scion FR-S I have to say with this 2022 BRZ - this platform has truly grown up and matured. It looks like a more sophisticated sports car with the same roots as the first gen. I’m curious how my tuned FR-S with full bolt-ons and E85 tune would stack up against this. This platform is moving in the right direction and I would consider getting a 2nd gen.

    27. Curious Airlines

      2:55 RIP headphone users

    28. MindlessAero

Gt86 will prolly get that mad face

      1. Jaime Ramirez-Perez

From the spyshots I've seen, im sure it's going to get the mad face but with much cleaner look

    29. Caleb Mac Donald

Imagine if they had a hybrid version , that would sick

    30. Nils Christian Halvorsen

it looks and sounds really good, but the media screen honestly looks like it was just picked up from the streets in wuhan:((

    31. Gabriel Robles

      Lost me at automatic...

    32. leobardo gamino

      It looks like a Mazda

    33. IzaakA70

my god if they just fucking put a flat 6 in the brz it would be fantastic

    34. John Boot

Sure it looks better. But can you offer a turbo option and just give the people what they want already. Even 250 to 275 hp would be more then enough with boost in that car

      1. Tj Tucker

Yeah then it’ll creep on STI and Supra sales. It’s the only reason why they haven’t done it. When they say it’s for cost reasons they’re BSing.

    35. Anvarynn

Also some audio normalization would do wonders

    36. Anvarynn

It looks like an accord / civic in the rear

    37. gorrilaunit99

How does Japan fuck up the Kouki model? *The '18 BRZ tS is officially the best one of all time*

    38. Peter Osinga

Looks just like the last model.

    39. VAN CItY

All new looks?? 😂 😂 😂 To be honest, this is straight up Mazda looks

    40. Alexander Hamilton

I love the twins and always will. I had a '13 FR-S for 4 years and I miss it every day. This seems like an improvement, but those looks holy moly! This looks like a hodgepodge of a bunch of cars

      1. Tj Tucker

Same. It’s one of those rare cars you get rid of maybe because it’s too slow so you upgrade or you need a bigger car. Then all of a sudden you just get it.haha. Fun car

    41. Alex Foran

Looks like an RCF from the back kinda.. but the overall car looks nice and sleek. Well looks like he already said that my bad lol

    42. albert dean castillo

That's a Honda Accord taillight ok

    43. Azeez Davis

      car sounds good

    44. Reid Tucker

It's still bullcrap that there is no turbo. The naturally aspirated version could be a Toyota, but this thing deserves at least 300 hp. For all the talk about taking sales away from the WRX and STI, I am not sure. Some buyers need four doors and four wheel drive and want to go fast. I think the FA20 turbo BRZ with the same power but less torque (and less weight obviously) than the old WRX would be ideal. Both the WRX and STI likely to have the FA24 turbo in their next generations, so there would not be any overlap. Also, I will put it out there that the reason cars are becoming so expensive and out of the reach of the enthusiasts that would buy them is because the automakers put so many technology and luxury options in the car that buyers in the segment don't care about. I liked how an old WRX from 2003 or 2004 was sort of crappy on the inside but was still screwed together tight and had good supportive seats. Similarly, as a former 370Z owner, the only tech feature I wish I had was a rear camera because visibility was so bad in the back. The rest of the car was basic but nice to sit in and very reliable. What else do buyers of sporty cars care about besides performance and reliability?

    45. heretic124

Won't be sold in EU. I have to move out of this eco-fascist place.

    46. Sean

All we need is the Hyundai Genesis coupe to come back😬👀

    47. PolskaMagnum

This looks bland too me the first gen looked better

    48. YT1300MF

“I wish it had a flat bottom steering wheel” 🤦‍♂️ no, just no. This is a back to basics sports car. The last thing they should be adding is pointless RaCEcAr aesthetics (and yes it is aesthetics, as the cockpit is designed for a normal wheel, the only cars that seriously benefit from flat bottom steering wheels are truly cramped cockpits like the Alfa 4C). Frankly, I think it looks damn near perfect. Prettiest car out there until you get to $60k+.

    49. winglessang31

I mean I like it. I’m not a big fan of the front end. I really think they should have turbocharged it. It’s not cool to buy something that they supposedly addressed the power in like the car and be getting passed by the current generation with a light turbo setup slapped on. If they were going to go bigger displacement they should have went all the way with a turbo.

    50. D.B.

People must stop moaning about turbos and start celebrating the fact we still have an affordable, RwD, great handling chassis that you can drive hard and rev to its 7/8k redline with a great gearbox!

      1. Jaime Ramirez-Perez

Totally agree, too many turbocharged cars nowadays its ridiculous

    51. Thujan Krishnakumar

I want this. I wish they had a turbo option, as someone who doesn't mind paying 7-10k more. Then again I'm sure there will be aftermarket options.

      1. Tj Tucker

It’s not for cost reasons, it’s because they know a small sports car with turbos would eat the sales of the Supra and STI

    52. lapamful

It would be interesting to see if this still has that torque dip in the middle of the rev range. Although the power is boosted somewhat, the torque is still way down compared to HP (don't know if that indicates anything). Still, it's a much better looking car compared to other cars that we waited so long for, such as the C8 and Supra. Look forward to the full review Sofyan.

    53. Robert

The things jutting out over the rear wheels aren't to improve aero; they're for reducing the amount of rode debris thrown onto cars behind you.

    54. Kenji Yamamoto

Body kind of reminds of an RX-8

    55. Warren

Old 86 rear design is way better than this honda rear style. Sincerely

    56. Billy Boy

I don't think many men can see themselves driving this little thing. I mean this is embarrassing.

    57. JayR

    58. William Waller

Hope there still a Toyota version. And hopefully it’s a bit more handsome. I hate the new tail on the car. The Honda Civic tail lights are awful. And they made the hips of the car too narrow. The trunk slopes off into nothing, what looks like 10” short of the tail lights on each side. That makes the car look too narrow at the top of he trunk in the back. That’s evidenced by the fact that they had to give the tail lights a horizontal surface on top of the to kind of fill out the body a bit. Tail lights should only really have a vertical surface as a design element. As for the front, I’m mixed. It’s not bad on its own, but as generational progress from the previous car I think it is a step backward. I think the narrower/more angular headlights of the current model are better looking. But I’m glad to see the black bumper reenforcement/fake grille space gone. That does however make the hood look like the slope at the leading edge is a bit wonky and too steep however. I’ll wait to see one in person. But right now I think the out going model is a far better looking car.

    59. Di Banani

Mustang GT weighs 500kg more than this car. Its not just about power if car is too heavy

    60. Oldskool Raver

It looks very weird when looking at it from the side. Still I'm waiting for the new wrx, the only Subaru that matters.

    61. Andre Sitanala

Best design ever....both exterior n interior.... why subaru can't do better design for other models.............

    62. JustUltRra

They got rid of the iconic taillights Did not like 3/10

    63. Gerardo V.

    64. Juwan Kitt

Looks like a 2017 Buick Regal in the back..

    65. Jacob Cutrer

are the apexes always marked in red? Idk why I just now noticed that.

    66. stanton0111

Pretty sure every person asked for a turbo and they still failed to add one in.

      1. Jacob Colombo

        It’s fine without it

      2. Jacky Ye

that would kill wrx and sti sales

    67. Thomas Wyatt

I'll wait for the RS model. Definitely needs some 38 offset rims and to be lower 2 inches.

    68. Fred Sanke

Are you Psy, the Korean singer?

    69. Abel Resi

Will there be a tS edition for this ‘22?? It makes sense we’d receive one given the two year jumps, but I have not read it specifically from Subi, other than “...will be available in both Limited and ‘PREMIUM’ trims...” Does Premium mean ‘tS’?

    70. Paul B

I'm so jealous of the oil filter placement. Thats so cenvenient!

    71. Based? Based on what?

My minivan is faster than this slushbox

    72. Skooma Dealer

      DAT A$$!

    73. Keaton M.

30+k for new BRZ OR 15k for previous model + turbo kit, wheels/tires, big brakes, and an exhaust

    74. Havnar

I foresee myself doing a f4 swap into a 2017 model in 10 years from now

    75. Havnar

      god damn it it's ugly...

    76. Lachlan Brodie

Sooo less power and heavier then a 20 year old s2000 way to go guys, should of been turbo from day one.

    77. Ethan Ryan

Ill stick to my 1st gen brz. New one looks disgusting.

    78. YouLazyButt

Make a sti model with a turbo. Then I will consider it

    79. Derek Chesney

Seriously. 17 inch wheels. At 215 width. Shame

    80. Ruben Ionut

      What is the new dimensions?

    81. Enrico

It baffles me that 66% of people who bought brz are choosing AT.... I mean you rather buy a freaking Camry if you wanna go D mode

      1. Jaime Ramirez-Perez

Buddy people have the right of choice, im getting my 86 with an auto for convenience reasons ok so don't judge my opinion of choice because that would be very pointless of you.

      2. Jb Sprinkles

Or let people have fun how they want. I want a auto brz due to northeast traffic and other factors

    82. Tiberianexcalibur

      Buick Regal rear

    83. 708914

Will Toyota be working with Subaru again for their new 86, does anyone have any idea?

    84. Sam Ang

Looks like BMW, poor inovative new things

    85. Layton S

Looks like a Porsche Cayman as they like to go back and fourth designing things together

    86. Connor S

      Kinda ugly

    87. Liberty Prime

“We know you guys want more horsepower so here you go” *gives 20 more hp*

      1. The Vibe

well it's a new engine so probably no more torque dip. i think overall it's gonna be a better car.

      2. Felipe Jardim

and 30 ft lbs more torque, at the right places which im sure it will make the car feel more alive than the previous gen, chassis is also 50% stiffer. Its basically a current gen RX8 or S2000 in terms of performace, at a bargain price considering those cars started out at 28k almost 20 years ago.

      3. ChIken

        And a over 40kg 80lbs extra fat.

    88. Anton Parks

A whole damn year waiting for the reprised BRZ to get produced.

    89. Yussnan84

Corvette in the front Civic on the back *Dissapointed*

    90. Mustafa810 C

      does it come in automatic?

    91. Zhekka Mikitchenko

Horrible exterior design! The BRZ/FRS had a unique design, now it has a mainstream look. Just like multiple previous commentators mentioned, it looks like a mash-up of multiple car designs already out.

    92. Niall Corcoran

      looks like shit lmao

    93. mozamel mosmer

Styll going with the 2016 brz wtf is that shit looks like a 350z

    94. RiotRadioFM

7:33 That's a beautiful torque curve. Peak torque hits early and it mostly stays nice and flat towards redline. This should make the car an absolute blast to drive while also making it fun to rev out.

    95. miko foin

      Honestly amazing

    96. Conscious Robot

The dash/control stack design is ugly. It looks hap hazardly cobbled together. There's no real style to it.

      1. miko foin

A headscratcher is why I see so many in the city. I have never encountered one on a back road. Outside of the Twisties these are poop (okay stock no turbo these are poop jee

    97. Conscious Robot

      I love it

    98. Richard Samuel McGravy

    99. Jack Gaffney

      228hp!? What a powerhouse 😂
